Butternut has got to be an all time favorite and friend to any callmaker. Because this wood is less dense and softer than the hardwoods, it is very popular for callmaking. The grain is similar to walnut, and Butternut has been used in the past as an alternative to walnut for gunstocks, cabinetry, and small projects. When properly sanded, it is very beautiful, with a creamy, buttery and golden color.
